In
the major operating theatre at Lok Hospital, a wide
variety of elective and emergency surgical procedures
are performed daily. Surgeries in the fields of
general, oncology, orthopaedic, neurosurgery, urology,
otolaryngology, and gynaecology are performed in
the facility, however most cases are general, oncological,
or orthopedic cases. Six to Eight Surgeries are
performed each day. Elective surgeries range from
laparoscopic cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder)
to a total hip replacement. Examples of emergency
surgery include the exploration of an acute abdomen
and decompression of intracranial lesions. Most
cases are performed under spinal or general anesthesia,
however local and epidural anesthesia are also used.
The theatre is also equipped with laminar flow air
exchange to minimize the risk of infection.
